Durant mon enfance à Lüneburg (Basse-Saxe), où mon père obtint un poste d'enseignant en pédagogie musicale à l'établissement pédagogique local (devenu une université en 1992), je suis inscrit à la "Landschulheim Marienau" (Basse-Saxe) en 1972, avant d'entrer l'année suivante à Odenwald, Hesse. Je commence à étudier le graphisme en 1976 à l' école d'art Alsterdamm de Hambourg (Gerhard F. Setzke). J'exerce dans cette ville la fonction de graphiste et d'imprimeur indépendant depuis 1980, tout en suivant des cours à l'Ecole d'art libre (Freie Kunstschule Hamburg) avec Günther Lierschoff. Je parviens en 1982 à entrer aux Beaux-arts de Hambourg (Hochschule für bildende Künste). Je suis inscrit en "art libre" au premier passage en 1983, après avoir présenté des dessins de grandes dimensions. Suite à une année "d'orientation" avec le Prof. Jochen Hiltmann, je finis par m'intéresser aux relations entre les arts visuels et la musique. Je m' inscris alors au conservatoire de musique et art dramatique de Hambourg ("Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst"), étudiant entre autres l'analyse (Prof. Hermann Laue) et la composition (Prof. Alfred Karkoschka). Mais j'oeuvre principalement au Beaux-arts, à la croisée de "l'art" et de la "communication visuelle" (Prof. Gerd Roscher, Prof. Rüdiger Neumann). J'ai pu réaliser de nombreuses vidéos musicales en rapport direct avec "l'art vidéo", avec des collages sonores et des compositions. J'ai également créé avec Ernst Mitzka, l'assistant en "art vidéo", des performances en musique et programmes vidéos pour l'exposition annuelle. J'intègre en 1986 la direction des échanges universitaires franco-allemands et suit pendant trois mois des cours sur le multimédia (Prof. Sun Gui Kim) à l'Ecole d'arts de Marseille ("Luminy"). Aux cours du Prof. Claus Böhmler aux Beaux-arts de Hambourg à partir de 1988, je commence à travailler sur des "objets sonores". J'obtiens en 1990 le diplôme des Beaux-arts, mention first class honours, ce qui me permet de poursuivre quatres autres semestres, au cours desquels j'ai surtout été en rapport avec le Prof. Sigmar Polke et parviens à m'inscrire à l'Université de Hambourg en "musicologie systématique". En 1991 la ville de Hambourg m'attribue une bourse ("Arbeitsstipendium"). Lauréat du forum de l'art "jeune" ("Forum Junger Kunst") en 1992, j'obtiens ainsi une exposition personnelle à la Kunsthalle de Baden-Baden ("Spaces of Perception"; cf. CD de l'exposition:"We Catch the Possible"). En 1993, je fais partie de l'Office allemand d'échanges académiques (DAAD), et par l'intermédiaire des services du Prof. Stephan von Huene de l'Institut d'art et de Technologie de Karlsruhe ("Hochschule für Kunst und Technologie Karlsruhe"), je me rends à San Diego, Californie, auprès du Prof. Allen Kaprow ("Fluxus"/"Concept Art"), avant d'entrer entre autres en contact avec Paul McCarthy, artiste conceptuel et de l'installation, également metteur en scène radio et cinéma. Je travaille depuis 1991 sur des installations spécifiques principalement en Europe Centrale: Het Apollohuis, Eindhoven; Galeria Wschodnia, Lodz (Pologne); Château Udjadowsky, Varsovie; Galerie Arsenal, Bialystock; Galerie Rostrum, Malmö (Suède); Ernst Museum, Budapest (Hongrie)…J'ai pu présenter ces dernières années des œuvres aux Goethe-Instituts de Cracovie (Pologne), New Delhi (Inde) et Toronto (Canada). Mes CDs sont distribués tant à Tokyo, Japon, qu'à Berlin (sur "Gelbe Musik"). Je travaille depuis 1992 à la Fachhochschule Lüneburg (université spécialisée), en tant qu'assistant en "esthétique et communication". En 1998, la musicologue Helga de la Motte-Haber m'obtient une bourse d'un an à l'académie de Schloss Solitude près de Stuttgart. Elle m'encourage ainsi à proposer d'avantage de conférences sur mes cycles de travail "Lights and Sounds", mes installations sonores et lumineuses spécifiques, et procédés de composition, comme à Darmstadt en 1998 (cours de printemps en musique nouvelle et pédagie musicale), à la K&S Galerie de Berlin en 1999, à la société des Beaux-arts Springhornhof, Neuenkirchen, à la KX Galerie de Hambourg (Septembre 1999)…Fin 1999 j'obtiens une bourse de l'EMARE (European Media Artist Residency Exchange, programme européen d'échange d'artistes et de compétences) par la Fondation Soros, et me rends ainsi au C3 (Centre pour la culture et communication à Budapest, Hongrie) pour y réaliser des œuvres spécifiques à Internet, visibles sur : http://soundart.c3.hu/ Ich wurde im Juli 1959 als Sohn des Privatdozenten für Musik, Gottfried Küntzel und der Lehrerin Margrit Küntzel geb. Hansen in Jugenheim a.d. Bergstrasse (Hessen) geboren. Aufgewachsen in Lüneburg (Niedersachsen), wo mein Vater 1963 eine Professur für Musikpädagogik an der dortigen Pädagogischen Hochschule (seit 1992 Universität) bekam, wurde ich 1972 in das Landschulheim Marienau (Niedersachsen) eingeschult und wechselte ein Jahr später nach Hessen an die Odenwaldschule. 1976 begann ich eine Ausbildung zum Graphik-Designer an der Kunstschule Alsterdam in Hamburg des Gerhard F. Setzke. Ab 1980 arbeitete ich freiberuflich als Graphiker und Offsetdrucker in Hamburg. Parallel belegte ich Kurse an der Hamburger "Freien Kunstschule", der Hamburger Ableger der FIU, des Günther Lierschoff. 1982 stebte ich die Aufnahme an der "Hochschule für bildende Künste" (HfbK) Hamburg im "Freie Kunst" an, wo ich beim ersten Anlauf 1983 durch Präsentationen von großformatigen Zeichnungen immatrikuliert wurde. Nach dem Orientierungsjahr bei Prof. Jochen Hiltmann etablierte sich mein Interesse an der Verknüpfung von bildender Kunst und Musik. In Folge dessen belegte ich parallel Kurse an der "Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst" Hamburg, u.a. bei Prof. Hermann Laue (Analyse) und Prof. Alfred Karkoschka (Komposition). Vorwiegend arbeitete ich an der HfbK im Zwischenbereich der Kunst und visuelle Kommunikation (Prof. Gerd Roscher, Prof. Rüdiger Neumann). Hier entstanden zahlreiche Musikvideos im Sinne der "Videokunst" deren Grundlage eigenen Klangcollagen und musikalischen Kompositionen bildeten. Bei Jahresausstellungen des Hauses veranstaltete ich Musik-Performances und Videoprogramme mit dem Dozenten für Videokunst Ernst Mitzka. 1986 war ich Stipendiat des deutsch / französischen Austauschdienstes und studierte bei Prof. Sun Gui Kim (Multimedia) für drei Monate an der Kunsthochschule Marseille-Luminy. Seit 1988 hatte ich an der HfbK meinen festen Platz in der Klasse von Prof. Claus Böhmler und begann die Arbeit an "Klangobjekten". 1990 bestand ich die Abschlussprüfung der HfbK (Diplom) mit Auszeichnung, was zur Folge hatte, daß ich vier Semester Aufbaustudium anhängen konnte. In dieser Zeit hatte ich vorwiegend Kontakt zu Prof. Sigmar Polke und erreichte die Immatrikulation an der Universität Hamburg im Bereich "Systhematische Musikwissenschaft". 1991 wurde mir das "Arbeitsstipendium" der Hansestadt Hamburg zugesprochen. 1992 war ich Preisträger des "Forum Junger Kunst", was eine Einzelausstellung in der Kunsthalle Baden-Baden ("Wahrnehmungsräume") zur Folge hatte (siehe Ausstellungsbegleitende CD "Wir fangen das Mögliche). 1993 war ich Stipendiat des "Deutsch Akademischen Austauschdienstes" (DAAD) und ging durch die Vermittlung von Prof. Stephan von Huene (Hochschule für Kunst und Technologie Karlsruhe) für drei Monate nach San Diego, Kalifornien zu Prof. Allen Kaprow (Fluxus- / Konzeptkunst) und kam u.a. mit dem Radio- und Filmemacher, Objekt- und Installationskünstler Paul Mc. Carthy in Kontakt. Seit 1991 war ich mit ortsspezifischen Installationen vorwiegend in Zentraleuropa tätig, (Het Apollohuis, Eindhoven,Galeria Wschodnia, Lodz ( Polen), Schloss Udjadowsky , Warschau, Galerie Arsenal, Bialystock, Galerie Rostrum, Malmö (Schweden), Ernst Museum, Budapest (Ungarn). In den letzten Jahren konnte ich Arbeiten in den Goethe-Instituten Krakow (Polen), Neu Delhi (Indien) und Toronto (Kanada) realisieren. Meine CDs werden bei "Omega Point" in Tokio (Japan) und in der "Gelben Musik" Berlin vertrieben. Seit 1992 bin ich Lehrbeauftragter an der Fachhochschule Lüneburg im Lehrbereich 5 "Ästhetik und Kommunikation". 1998 holte mich die Musikwissenschftlerin Prof. Dr, Helga de la Motte-Haber für ein einjähriges Arbeitsstipendium an die Akademie Schloß Solitude bei Stuttgart. Durch Ihre Anregung halte ich nunmehr auch vermehrt Vorträge über meine Arbeitszyklen Lights and Sounds, ortsspezifische Licht- und Klanginstallationen und Kompositionsprozesse ab, so 1998 in der Frühjahrskursen für Neue Musik und Musikerziehung, Darmstadt , 1999 in der K&S Galerie, Berlin, dem Kunstverein Springhornhof, Neuenkirchen, der KX Galerie, Hamburg (Sept.`99) und im C3, Center für Kultur und Kommunikation in Budapest. Having grown up in Lüneburg (Lower Saxony) where my father got a professorship for musical pedagogics at the local pedagogical college (since 1992 university), I was put to school in the 'Landschulheim Marienau' (Lower Saxony) in 1972 and one year later I went to the 'Odenwald'-school in Hesse. In 1976 I began studying graphic design at the 'Alsterdamm' art school in Hamburg (Gerhard F. Setzke). Since 1980 I worked as a free-lance graphic designer and printer in Hamburg. At the same time I took courses at the 'Freie Kunstschule' (free art school) in Hamburg (Günther Lierschoff). In 1982 I made efforts to enter the 'Hochschule für bildende Künste' (HfBK - academy of fine arts) in Hamburg. I was matriculated in the subject 'free art' in the first run in 1983 by presenting large-sized drawings. After one year of 'orientation' with Prof. Jochen Hiltmann, my interest in combining fine arts and music established. Since 1988 my place was the class of Prof. Claus Böhmler at he HfBK. I started working with 'sound objects'. In 1990 I passed the final examination at the HfBK (diploma) with first class honours - and therefore I had the possibility to add a further four semesters of studies. During this time I mainly had contact to Prof. Sigmar Polke and I attained matriculation at the university of Hamburg in the subject 'systematic musicology'. In 1991 I was awarded to a scholarship ('Arbeitsstipendium') of the 'Town of Hamburg'. In 1992 I was prize-winner of the 'Forum Junger Kunst' (forum of 'young' art), which resulted in a personal exhibition in the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden ('Spaces of Perception') (see CD of the exhibition: 'We Catch the Possible'). In 1993 I was scholar of the DAAD (German academic exchange commitee) and by the offices of Prof. Stephan von Huene of the 'Hochschule für Kunst und Technologie Karlsruhe' (academy of art and technology) I went to San Diego, California to Prof. Allen Kaprow ('Fluxus'/'Concept Art') and got into contact with the radio- and filmmaker, object and installation artist Paul McCarthy.
