Jos DE GRUYTER, Harald THYS Parallellogram Vidéo expérimentale - dvc Pro - couleur - 0:20:00 - co-prod: KunstenFestivaldesArts, Jan Van Eyck Academie - Belgique - 2000 Un homme âgé et ses deux associés descendent dans un petit endroit sous-terrain.Sous les cris du vieillard les associés remontent en surface une créature étrange.Le vieilard conduit cette créature devant la fenêtre de sa fille paralysée et qui est guérie par son régard. Dès que l'emotion lie les deux personnages(le monstre et la fille),le vieillard intervient pour les séparer. Il reconduit avec ses associés la créature dans son trou. An older man and his two accomplices descend in a little dark space deep under the ground. Under the loud roars of the older man, the accomplices lift a hatch and pull out a strange creature from the hole. Once above ground, the older man lets the creature appears in front of the window of his living room where his daughter sits motionless in a seat. The immobile daughter is transfixed by the look of the creature from the hole. She gets up walks in trance to the window. As soon as the older man notices that some kind of emotional tension arises between his daughter and the creature, he interferes ruthlessly. The accomplices capture the creature and put back in the hole - again under the roaring orders of the old man. A parallelogram is a deformed rectangle. The two oblique sides of it look as if they are about to collapse but the other two stop that from happening. This fixed statestate of collapse applies to the characters in the minimalist video Parallellogram - they fall down on their horizontal foundation because the structure to which they subscribe, their family, is a deformed plane. Lost, they try to communicate or avoid one another, using a language of impenetrable banality. This oblique structure is their mental space, in which the characters slip into each other. Biographie En 1992, les deux cinéastes Jos de Gruyter et Harald Thys terminent leurs études au Hoger Instituut voor Beeldende Kunst Sint-Lucas à Bruxelles. Jos de Gruyter suit encore une formation à la Rijksacademie d'Amsterdam et Harald Thys fréquente pendant deux ans, de 1997 à 1999, la Jan Van Eyck Academie à Maastricht. Leur oeuvre, des vidéos et des installations, a déjà circulé dans différents festivals nationaux et internationaux. Leurs installations ont été exposées en Belgique (Galerie Foncke/Gand, NICC/ Anvers) et à l’étranger (DAAD-Galerie/Berlin, Kunstehalle/Bâle). Ensemble, ils ont réalisé e.a. Keizer Roi (1993), De Deserteur (1997) et De Vloek (1999).
