Un détective a été envoyé dans le sud de la Californie afin de le ramener au pays. Le privé décode une suite de messages téléphoniques de plus en plus mystérieux qui lui permet de retrouver la piste du fuyard. Le chassé-croisé entre les deux hommes traduit des formes géométriques émergeant de banlieues interminables. Qu'est-ce qui motive ce réseau de zones rituelles, calé entre le régime finissant de Ceausescu d'une part et l'apocalypse des T.V. américaines d'autre part? Ion Lupescu, the romanian track star and national hero, defected from his homeland to try his luck in the new wolrd. A detective has been sent to southern California on a mission to find Lupescu and bring him home to Bucharest. The detective decodes a series of incresingly mysterious phone messages that instruct him which direction to pursue his prey. The ensuing chase delineates discrete geometrical shapes upon the vast wonderland of suburbia. Who-or what- is the force behind these emerging ritual zones set between the static images of the old Ceausescu regime on one hand and the american TV apocalypse on the other? Biographie Pieter Schoolwerth est né en 1970 à Saint-Louis. Après un diplôme à la calArts, son premier oneman show à la Manhattan's Thread Waxing Space a attiré l'attention, un article dans Artforum en témoigne, le présentant comme un jeune artiste important. Son second show avec Greene Naftali lui a permis de participer à plusieurs expositions importantes à l'Anthony Reynolds Gallery de Londres, et il est prévu prochainement au Royal College of arts, toujours à Londres. Des peintures récentes de l'artiste ont été exposées à l'American Fine Arts Co entre le 20 avril et le 17 mai 2000. Miguel Abreu, partageant ses origines entre Cuba, la France et les U.S.A., a grandi entre Paris et New-York. Il a étudié la philosophie et l'art au Davidson College (Caroline du Nord) et au Collège International de Philosophie de Paris. Dans le domaine de l'art moderne, Abreu a travaillé comme vendeur pour le privé pendant des années. Il a produit et co-réalisé le documentaire "Bottom line: The kostabi Phenomenon" qui a été diffusé à la télévision dans sept pays différents, dont PBS aux Etats-Unis et BBC2 en Angleterre. Abreu est ensuite revenu aux études à la CalArts où il a étudié le cinéma avec James et Alexander Mackendrick. Son film de fin d'étude, "Morongo Pass", primé à l'Anthology Film Archives et est par la suite devenu un film culte de l'underground. Pieter Schoolwerth was born in 1970 in St. Louis. After graduating from calArts he had his first oneman show at Manhattan's Thread Waxing Space Which received much attention, Including a Spread in Artforum introducing him as an important young artist. His second solo show was with Greene Naftali and led to inclusion in a variety of major group exhibitions at Anthony Reynolds Gallery in London and will feature in a forthcoming show at the Royal College of arts, London. His recent paintings were on view at american Fine Arts Co. In New York From April 20 to May17,2000. Miguel Abreu is a french-cuban-american who grew up in Paris and New York. He studied philosophy and art at Davidson college, North Carolina and at the college International de philosophie in Paris. Abreu has worked for many years as a private dealer in modern art. He produced and co-directed the documentary Bottom line: The kostabi Phenomenon,which aired on television in seven different countries, including PBS in the US and BBC2 in the UK.. Abreu went back to school at CalArts where he studied Filmmaking with James and Alexander Mackendrick. His thesis Film, Morongo Pass, premiered at the anthology Film Archives and has subsequently become an underground cult classic.
