Art or life. A burglary has occurred unnoticed; the crime needs
to be investigated. Marco Raparelli tells the adventures of a stray
dog, wandering throughout the city. Frederico Solmi revives an untammed
King Kong in a post-hyper-capitalistic society. Peter Garfield films
a forest, where it is preferable not to wander. Marko Maëtamm takes
his wife and kids for a drive, until pressure becomes unbearable.
Patrick Bernatchez features Ronald Mac Donalds in a new role, his
last one, in an underground garage. Crispin Gurholt gels his characters
in order to better investigate a crime committed in the museum.
Carles Congost presents how painting takes its revenge on contemporary
art. Velázquez and the Masters of the Golden Age hatch a plot to
bring back Spanish art in the forefront of the international artistic
scene. On a techno soundtrack, Tony Cokes reflects upon the vexed
relationship between art criticism and art making during the 1960s
and 70s. Daniela Franco’s animated video consists of headlines
from Malaysian English newspapers and presents a mumbling karaoke
speech on artists. Jacob Gautel offers an exclusive news story,
a scoop on the reigning emperor. Martin Sastre offers another scoop,
with images as proof, on a princess, who far from being dead is
be living in a favela of Montevideo, Uruguay. |

From the hiring interview to the dismissal interview, from the old
factory to the multinational company. Chelsea Knight infiltrates
the offices of the United Nations, explores fantasies of power within
bureaucracy, within an idealized institution. Alicia Framis walks
across the building of a big bank, whose hundred employees are standing
still, in a timeless space, congealed in their everyday work gestures.
Gregg Smith films a hiring interview, led by a strange couple in
a small provincial town. Karel de Cock observes three businessmen
in the bar lobby of a big standardized hotel, the waiting and the
uselessness, the drawback of success. Mariane Foltron stages a role
play in which managers learn how to handle dismissal interviews,
the art of circumlocution. Noëlle Pujol and Ludovic Burel film
three persons in a factory from the post-industrial era. They have
survived this era and each one of them is busy with pointless micro-tasks. |

The film “Les habitants” unfolds around the idea of humanism and of a link between nature and wildlife, it also addresses the attacks and the treats perpetrated by mankind. The film “Les saisons” evokes the defining moments in Armenian history, from its volcanic roots to the industrial era. In “Fin”, Pelechian films, with a shoulder mounted camera, men and women from different ages and ethnic groups, in a train going from Moscow to Yerevan. The film “Vie” shows the face of a woman who is giving birth, the ancestral gestures related to birth, in an abstract space which reminds of the iconographic depictions of the Mother and Child. |
