../_PRESENTATION / Synthesis

Since 1997, the Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin has existed as an interdisciplinary project designed to promote new cinema, video and multimedia.
Each year, in Paris and Berlin, the festival presents an international programming which brings together well-known directors on the international scene, along with young artists and film makers whose work has not been widely distributed.

The Rencontres Internationales hope to bring contemporary works of art to a wide audience, to facilitate movement between the different creative spheres and to communicate this to the audience, to create dynamic exchanges between artists, directors, and those participating in artistic and cultural life.

Every year, a call for entry is open to all for each cycle of programation :

The festival hopes to facilitate the circulation of different creative contemporary practices among different audiences, different artists and directors, among different geographical, artistic and cultural spaces in Paris and Berlin. Today, these two cities benefit from a positive difference allowing an approach to significant elements in our society, a greater understanding of current trends in artistic and cultural contexts, a greater understanding of the prizes at stake.

> In keeping with the precedent set by previous festivals, we want, since 1997, to center the festival on contemporary creation, presenting works that, effectively, integrate the themes and languages of different areas of expression, questioning the image and its relationship with time and space by investigating the languages of cinema, audio-visual and plastic arts, a questioning in act.

> Bringing these works together makes an active laboratory that we would like to explore and help others to discover. By bringing together the diverse means of creation and their respective audiences, and allowing them to communicate, the Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin become an open event in which the specificities and correspondence of languages and sights can emerge from the evolving contemporary production.

> For the next Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, we hope once again to open up a new space for exchanges and meetings between different artistic language forms and different audiences.

../_PRESENTATION / Elements

The programming of the Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin is put together from a cross-section of different spheres, genres and media, covering themes, questions, tone, and openness to dialogue.

>  The film and video programming bring together short, medium and full-length films, experimental movies, video art, documentaries, animation films, on super 8, 16 mm, 35 mm and video. The Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin present films by independent directors, film school students, directors who are not working as part of any institutional network, 'traditional' production films, as well as films created by well known artists and directors who, by their approach, commitment and research, participate actively in the development of the visual arts.

> The multimedia, interventions and installations, program includes performance art, sound poetry, readings, live concerts with projections, sound installations, video installations, multimedia installations, online works, net art CDroms... The contribution of all of these different languages is one of considerable importance. The simultaneous presence of a range of different multimedia arts allows for the film and video screenings to be resituated in a greater context, one in which the visual arts are always in the process of becoming.
