Questions/Answers

1 • When will the next "Rencontres internationales" take place?
Answer: The dates of the next Rencontres Internationales are posted on our web site, in particular on the presentation page and on the "communiqué" www.art-action.org/en_info.htm

2 • Does the "art-action" web site exist in several languages?
Answer: YES, at the upper right corner of the main page you will find links to access our web site in French, English, German, Spanish; you will also be able to access main information in Italian and Chinese from the home page (bottom).

3 • If I am not a French or a German citizen, can I send one of my works?
Answer: YES, you can send a work no matter what country you live in and no matter what country you originate from. The festival's programming is international.

4 • Can I make SEVERAL WORK PROPOSALS?
Answer: YES, any individual or organization can make one or several proposals for the festival's programming.

5 • Is the call for entries FREE?
Answer: Proposals are FREE. Proposing one or several works is free, no matter how many proposals you make, their origin or their length.

6 • What are the ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS to be allowed to propose a work?
Answer: Works proposed to the "Rencontres internationales" must have been produced during the two years preceding the festival and must not have been previously publicly shown in Paris. The "call for entry information" is available inside the "ENTRY FORM" and at this location

7 • What TYPE OF WORK can I propose?
Answer: The call for entries is open for the Film, Video and multimedia cycles, without any restriction of genre, format or length. Works that cover different artistic fields are also accepted.

CINEMA AND VIDEO CYCLE

8 • On what PREVIEWING EQUIPMENT must I propose a work for the selection?
Answer: ALL film and video previewing copies are received on a DVD. You may also use a VHS PAL / NTSC tape. No other format is accepted for the films and videos. Master videos are not accepted and generally, no original is accepted.
IMPORTANT: Before each dispatch, please check that your DVD is entirely readable on a current home DVD player such as the ones sold on the market. You may also use DVD PAL/NTSC, DVD-R or DVD+R. DVD RW are NOT accepted.
Audio and multimedia proposals are sent on CD, CD-rom, and DVD or VHS videotape format.
IMPORTANT: Do not stick any stickers on your DVDs, CDs and CD-roms; it might prevent the reading. Put your DVD or CD-rom is a rigid case, otherwise, they might be broken or folded when received.

9 • May I record SEVERAL FILMS OR VIDEOS on one same DVD or VHS tape?
Answer: YES, several film or video proposals can be recorded on a same previewing equipment, on a same DVD or a same VHS tape. IMPORTANT: It is essential that you indicate clearly and legibly the recording order of the works. IMPORTANT: do not stick any stickers on your DVDs, CDs and CD-roms; it might prevent the reading. IMPORTANT: You must complete ONE FORM PER PROPOSAL.

10 • How do I proceed to enter a PROPOSAL?
Answer: You must complete an "ENTRY FORM" available exclusively on our web site, at the following page:

Once completed, you must print the form, date it and sign it, then join it to you postal dispatch.
IMPORTANT: If you wish to propose several works, you must complete ONE FORM PER PROPOSAL. A work with no entry form is a work that we can't proceed.

11 • THE FORM DOES NOT WORK; I cannot open the entry form at this link:

Answer: To access the entry form, you must use "Internet Explorer". For technical reasons it was unfortunately impossible to make the entry form compatible with all existing web browsers. If you have not already installed Internet Explorer on your computer, please do, it is free and available at these addresses:

12 • How do I proceed to the PROPOSALS' DISPATCHING?
Answer: Send all proposals exclusively by mail, in an envelope, attached with the "Entry Form" properly completed, signed and dated, at the rate of ONE ENTRY FORM PER PROPOSAL - and the required material.

13 • WHAT MATERIAL and documents must be attached to my dispatch?
Answer: The required material varies with the type of work that you propose. An indicative list is available inside the Entry Form.
Recommendations: ALL enclosed texts must be typed and printed (no handwritten text). They must be written in at least one of these languages: English, French, or German. If the original language is different, enclose the original texts also.
ALL enclosed images must be on a paper medium (no CD-Rom or DVD). They can be printed out in color or in black and white on regular paper. Images are not to be received by e-mail.

14 • Where can I find the MAILING ADDRESS for the proposals' dispatching?
Answer: Our address is available on our web site www.art-action.org and on the entry form.

15 • What is an INTERNATIONAL COUPON?
Answer: International coupons are delivered in all post offices of the countries that are a member of the universal postal union. It is like a stamp, but that you can change in any country for local stamps for international sending. They can be bought in a post office in the countries members of the universal postal union www.upu.int
Do never send local stamps (except for French or German stamps).

16 • If I submit several proposals, HOW MANY STAMPS or international coupons do I have to enclose to my postal sending?
Answer: Whatever the number of submitted proposals, (1, 5 or 50 proposals...), you must enclose only once, 5 international coupons OR 5 French or German stamps.

17 • What is the DEADLINE for the proposals dispatching?
Answer: The call for entries for the next editions of the "Rencontres Internationales" is open until August the 15th, 2008 (postmarked, date of sending. Express sending is not necessary). A permanent call for entries will remain open the rest of the year and allows submitting new proposals during the year. Proposals are received exclusively by mail. No direct deposit will be accepted. Proposals received without the postmark will not be taken into account.

18 • Do I have a PRIVACY GUARANTEE of the personal addresses given during the application, and are my works insured during the time of the festival?
Answer: The "Rencontres internationales" guarantees the privacy of all personal information. According to the French law (law about computing and liberty oh January 6th 1978), you have the right at any time to change or suppress your personal datas. The festival will insure films, videos and installations for the entire duration that they are entrusted to the festival.

19 • How will I receive the RECEPTION CONFIRMATION of my proposal(s)?
Answer: You will receive an e-mail confirming the receipt of your work(s) 3 months after your sending at the latest. This e-mail will be sent to the address stated on the Entry Form.

20 • How can I be informed on the FESTIVAL'S PROGRAMMING, and when will I know if my proposal is part of it?
Answer: The answers are sent by email three months before the beginning of the festival.

21 • If my proposal is selected, WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT may I receive?
Answer: The "Rencontres Internationales" supports the technical needs for the installations, the performances and the concerts. Artists' fees are offered for the interventions, the performances and the concerts. Translation and subtitle editing support is also available for Films and videos. The "Rencontres Internationales" does its best to permit all selected artists and filmmakers to attend the festival. It also guarantees professionals' presence, in the purpose of allowing new presentations and further projects.
