 "Type O" propose une comparaison métaphorique entre le sang et les mots. Associant animations au ralenti et techniques cinématographiques expérimentales, le film appartient à un domaine où les frontières entre réalité et imaginaire sont brouillées. Dans une tentative pour surmonter sa peur de la page blanche, le personnage principal se lance dans une lutte physique avec sa machine à écrire. En tapant au hasard, un de ses doigts se coince entre deux touches et se met à saigner. A la première goutte de sang répandue, les mots se mettent à bouillonner à la surface et la peur de la page blanche disparaît peu à peu. Tout comme le sang est un fluide indispensable à la vie, les mots sont vitaux pour l'écrivain. Les qualités organiques du sang et des mots sont rendues visuellement en peignant un film transparent et en appliquant des lettres sur sa surface. Tandis que la caméra quitte l'univers du personnage et de sa machine, et s'engage dans un monde extérieur fait d'images superbes, une histoire prend forme progressivement, sur la page comme à l'écran. Le processus d'écriture, qui commence littéralement par un voyage en soi destiné à libérer tout un monde d'inspirations, atteint bientôt un rythme de croisière, pour raconter une histoire qui se terminera sur le mot "Fin".  "Type O" ist ein metaphorischer Vergleich zwischen Blut und Worten. Der Film, der Stop-Motion-Animationen und experimentelle Filmtechniken verbindet, siedelt sich in einem Gebiet an, in dem die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Fantasise verschwimmen. Im Versuch, ihre Angst vor dem leeren Blatt zu überwinden, lässt sich die Hauptfigur auf einen Kampf mit ihrer Schreibmaschine ein. Dabei wird ihr Finger eingeklemmt und blutet. Mit dem ersten Blutstropfen brodeln die Worte an die Oberfläche, die Angst vor dem leeren Blatt löst sich nach und nach auf. So wie Blut eine lebenserhaltende Flüssigkeit ist, sind Worte das Lebensfluid des Schriftstellers. Die organischen Qualitäten von Blut und Worten werden visuell wiedergegeben durch einen leeren Film, der mit Buchstaben bemalt und bestempelt wird. Eine Geschichte beginnt sich auf dem leeren Blatt zu formen und gleichzeitig im Film, in dem Moment, in dem die Kamera die Welt des Schreibers verlässt um in eine Welt voller schöner Bilder einzutauchen. Der Schreibprozess, der durch das buchstäbliche In-Sich-Schauen ausgelöst wurde, wird immer frenetischer und letztendlich ist eine ganze Geschichte entstanden, die mit den Worten "The End" endet.  Type O explores a metaphorical comparison between blood and words. Combining stop motion animation and experimental film techniques, the film inhabits a realm where the boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred. In an attempt to defeat her writer's block, the central character engages in a physical struggle with her typewriter. A finger is caught by the radon keying, drawing blood. With the first drop of blood spilt, works bubble to the surface and the writer's block begins to clear. Just a s blood is a life sustaining fluid, words are the writer's lifeline. The organic qualities of blood and words are realized visually by clear film which has been had painted and stamped with letters. A story begins to formulate on page and on screen as the camera leaves the world of the typist and enters the outside world full of beautiful images. The writing process, initiated by literally looking inside oneself to unlock a world of inspiration, gains momentum until a story has been told and is completed with the words "The End".
___ Note biographique Artiste et cinéaste, Kara Blake travaille actuellement à Toronto, où elle réalise des effets numériques en post-production. Diplômée en cinéma de l'université de Ryerson, Kara a co-organisé et participé à de nombreuses projections dans sa ville, en tant que membre du groupe LOOP et associée aux 245 collectifs qui combinent collage cinématographique et performance musicale en live. Ses films et vidéos ont été présentés dans le cadre du Museum of Modern Art de New York, de The Art Gallery d'Ontario, du festival Images ainsi que sur la chaîne Women's Television Network et sur MTV Europe Kara Blake ist Filmemacherin und arbeitet zurzeit in Toronto als Digital-Effect-Künstlerin in der Post-Produktion. Als Mitglied der Gruppe LOOP und dem 245 collective, das Film mit Live-Musik-Performances verbindet, hat die von der Ryerson Universität Toronto diplomierte Künstlerin zahlreiche lokale Events mit organisiert und auch daran teilgenommen. Ihre Filme und Videos wurden zu verschiedenen Anlässen, unter anderem im Museum of Modern Art New York; der Art Gallery of Ontario, auf dem Images Festival; dem Women's Television Network und auf MTV Europe gezeigt. Kara Blake is a Toronto filmmaker currently working in post-production as a digital effects artist. A graduate of the Ryerson Film Studies program, Kara has helped organize and participated in many local screening events as a member of the LOOP group and the 245 collective which combines motion picture collage with live musical performance. Her films and videos have been shown at venues including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Art gallery of Ontario, Images Festival and on the Women's Television Network and MTV Europe. |
