 Le documentaire expérimental "Hostage: The Bachar Tapes" (version anglaise) relate la crise des otages occidentaux. Cette crise se rapporte aux enlèvements et à la détention d'occidentaux comme Terry Anderson et Terry Whaite au Liban pendant les années 80 et 90 par des militants islamistes. Cet épisode eut des conséquences directes et indirectes sur la vie politique et publique du Liban, des Etats-Unis, de la France, et de la Grande-Bretagne et fit éclater des scandales politiques ultra mediatisés comme l'affaire Iran-Contra aux Etats-Unis. Dans la version anglaise du film "Hostage: The Bachar Tapes", la crise des otages occidentaux est examinée à travers le témoignage de Souheil Bachar qui fut un otage au Liban entre 1983 et 1993. Ce qui est frappant dans la captivité de Bachar est qu'il fut le seul Arabe a être détenu avec les otages occidentaux enlevés pendant les années 80. En fait, pendant trois mois en 1985 Souheil partagea la même cellule que cinq Américains : Terry Anderson, Thomas Sutherland, Benjamin Weir, Marting Jenco, et David Jacobsen. En 1999, Bachar en collaboration avec l'Atlas group (une fondation de recherche à but non-lucratif basée au Liban) tourna 53 bandes vidéos sur sa captivité. Les bandes vidéos n°17 et n°31 sont les seules que Bachar ait fait paraître en dehors du Liban. Sur ces bandes, Bachar aborde les aspects culturels, textuels et sexuels de sa détention avec les Américains. "Die Krise erwähnt die Entführung von Abendländern wie Terry Anderson und Terry Waite durch "islamische Militanten" im Libanon in den 80er und am Anfang der 90er Jahre. Dieser Vorfall beschädigte direkt und indirekt das politische und öffentliche Leben im Libanon, in den USA, in Frankreich und Großbritannien, und beschleunigte viele mediatisierte politische Skandale wie die Iran-Contra Angelegenheit in den USA. In "Hostage: The Bachar Tapes" (englische Version) wird die "Krise der westlichen Geiseln" durch die Aussage von Souheil Bachar beleuchtet. Herr Bachar wurde im Libanon zwischen 1983 und 1993 als Geisel gehalten. Das Außergewöhnliche an Souheils Gefangenschaft ist, dass er als einzige Araber mit den in Beirut in den 80er entführten westlichen Geiseln gefangen gehalten wurde. Tatsächlich wurde Souheil 1985 drei Monate lang in der selben Zelle mit fünf Amerikanern festgehalten: Terry Anderson, Thomas Sutherland, Benjamin Weir, Marting Jenco und David Jacobsen. 1999 arbeitete Bachar mit The Atlas Group zusammen (eine kulturelle Forschungsstiftung ohne Gewinnabsicht mit Sitz im Libanon) um 53 Videobände über seine Gefangenschaft zu produzieren. Die Bänder #17 und #31 sind die einzigen, die Bachar außerhalb Libanon zur Verfügung stellte. Auf den Bändern spricht Bachar über die kulturellen, texterischen und sexuellen Aspekte seiner Gefangenschaft mit den Amerikanern.  Hostage: The Bachar Tapes (English Version) is an experimental documentary about "The Western Hostage Crisis. "The crisis refers to the abduction and detention of Westerners like Terry Anderson, and Terry Waite in Lebanon in the 80s and early 90s by "Islamic militants." This episode directly and indirectly consumed Lebanese, U.S., French, and British political and public life, and precipitated a number of high-profile political scandals like the Iran-Contra affair in the U.S. In Hostage: The Bachar Tapes (English version), the "Western Hostage Crisis" is examined through the testimony of Souheil Bachar. Mr. Bachar was held hostage in Lebanon between 1983 and 1993. What is remarkable about Souheil's captivity is that he was the only Arab to have been detained with the Western hostages kidnapped in Beirut in the 1980s. In fact, Souheil was held for 3 months in 1985 in the same cell as five American men: Terry Anderson, Thomas Sutherland, Benjamin Weir, Marting Jenco, and David Jacobsen. In 1999, Bachar collaborated with The Atlas Group (a non-profit cultural research foundation based in Lebanon) to produce 53 videotapes about his captivity. Tapes #17 and #31 are the only two tapes Bachar makes available outside of Lebanon. In the tapes, Bachar addresses the cultural, textual, and sexual aspects of his detention with the Americans.

Son travail comprend des analyses textuelles ainsi que des projets vidéos et photos et se concentre sur la guerre civile au Liban, les conflits israélo-arabes et l'étude théorique et pratique de documentaires. Ses ouvrages filmés comprennent "Up to the South" (en collaboration avec Jayce Salloum) ainsi que la collection de courts-métrages récemment terminés, intitulés "The Dead Weight of Quarrel Hangs" (Le Poids mort des querelles suspendues). Parmi ses projets photos se trouve "The Beyrouth Archive", un projet de documentaire-photos actuellement en cours sur le Beyrouth de l'après-guerre. Walid est également membre de la Fondation Arabe pour l'Image qui fut créée en 1996 et qui se donne pour but de promouvoir la recherche historique sur la culture visuelle du monde arabe ainsi que la production de vidéos expérimentales dans la région. Walid Ra'ad wuchs im Libanon auf. Er lebt und arbeitet derzeit in den USA. His videoworks include Up To The South (with Jayce Salloum), and the recently completed collection of video shorts titled, The Dead Weight of Quarrel Hangs. His photogaphy projects include The Beirut Archive‹an ongoing documentary photography project of post-civil war Beirut.
