 "Skip" est composé d'extraits de films retrouvés montrant des enfants à différents stades de développement intellectuel et corporel s'efforçant de surmonter une série d'obstacles physiques. Par le biais du montage, les similitudes à la fois formelles et émotionnelles existant entre ces images disparates sont accentuées. Des sons extraits de vieux disques ont été ajoutés afin de faire ressortir le montage et de mettre en relief les rythmes et les motifs du mouvement à l'intérieur du cadre.  "Skip" besteht aus Filmauszügen, in denen Kinder an verschiedene Stadien ihrer intellektuellen und körperlichen Entwicklung, eine Reihe von körperlichen Hindernissen zu überwinden versuchen. Durch die Montage werden Sowohl die formelle als auch die emotionale Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen diesen unterschiedlichen Bildern unterstrichen. Es wurden auch Töne aus alten Schallplatten hinzugefügt, um die Montage hervorzuheben und den Accent auf die Rhythmen und Motive innerhalb des Rahmens zu legen.  Skip is composed of found footage of children at various stages of cognitive and physical development attempting to overcome an array of physical obstacles. Through editing, both the formal and emotional similarities in these disparate images are accentuated. Abstracted sounds from old records were added to stress the edits and to emphasize the rhythms and patterns of the movement within the frame.  ___ Note biographique Ann Steuernagel est une artiste dont le travail repose sur l'utilisation expérimentale du son et de la vidéo. Son travail visuel tend à mettre en relief les gestes et les rythmes quotidiens de ses sujets. Son travail sonore - qui mélange bruits environnants, enregistrements ethnographiques, récit et musique originale - est le fruit de sa collaboration de dix ans avec la chorégraphe post-moderne Caitlin Corbett. Ann a créé de nombreuses bandes-son pour la compagnie chorégraphique Caitlin Corbett. Son travail a été montré à travers les Etats-Unis, notamment à Boston, New York et San Francisco. Son oeuvre vidéo a également été projetée au Canada, au Mexique et lors de l'édition 2001 des Rencontres Internationales Paris-Berlin. Ihre Tonarbeit - die eine Mischung von umliegenden Geräuschen, ethnographischen Aufnahmen, bericht und originale Musik - entsteht aus einer Zusammenarbeit mit der post-modernen Choreographin Caitlin Corbett. Ann entwarf zahlreiche Tonbände für das choreographische Theaterensemble Caitlin Corbett. Ann Steuernagel is an experimental video and sound artist. Her visual work accentuates the gestures and quotidian rhythms of her subjects. Ann's sound work-a blend of ambient sound, ethnographic recordings, story telling, and original music-stems from her decade-long collaboration with postmodern choreographer Caitlin Corbett. Ann has created numerous sound scores for the Caitlin Corbett Dance Company. Ann's work has been shown throughout the United States including Boston, New York, and San Francisco. Her work has also been screened in Canada, Mexico, and at the Rencontres Internationales Festivals in Paris and Berlin. In 1999, Ann's video "Boy running" won first prize at the XX VideoArt Festival in Locarno, Switzerland. J'ai été particulièrement attirée par la séquence du petit garçon qui bégaye. Sa lutte opiniâtre et gracieuse pour la parole trouve un écho métaphorique dans la séquence, répétée en boucle, de l'adolescente qui traverse l'écran en sautillant avec élégance. Tous les enfants dégagent une impression de gravité que j'ai accentuée par de subtiles manipulations, en montrant les séquences à l'envers, en les passant au ralenti ou en accéléré. "Skip" est également un jeu de mots dont la signification est rendue évidente par le bruit de disques qui sautent. Une grande partie des effets sonores, extraits de vieux disques, ont été ajoutés afin de faire ressortir le montage et de mettre en relief les rythmes et les motifs du mouvement à l'intérieur du cadre. L'oeuvre s'achève par une nouvelle version de la chanson "Skip to my Lou" interprétée par Carl Accordino. "Skip" besteht aus Filmauszüge, in denen Kinder an verschiedene Stadien ihrer intellektuellen und körperlichen Entwicklung, eine Reihe von körperlichen Hindernissen zu überwinden versuchen. Ich wurde ganz besonders von der Sequenz mit dem kleinen Stotternden Jung angelockt. Sein hartnäckiger bzw. anmutiger Kampf um das Wort, findet ein Echo in der ständig wiederholende Sequenz der Jugendliche, die mit Eleganz hüpfend den Leinwand durchquert. Von allen Kindern strahlt ein Ernstausdruck, den ich durch subtilen Handhabungen betont habe, indem ich die Sequenzen umgekehrt, mit mäßigem oder schnellerem Tempo gezeigt habe. "Skip" ist aber auch ein Wortspiel dessen Bedeutung durch das Geräusch der zerkratzten und springenden Schallplatten eindeutig wird. Eine große Anteil der Toneffekte aus den alten Schalplatten wurde hauptsächlich hinzugefügt, um die Montage hervorzuheben und die Rhythmen und Motive innerhalb des Rahmens zu betonen. Das Werk endet mit einer neuen Fassung des Liedes "Skip to my Lou" von Carl Accordino interpretiert. I was particularly drawn to the footage of the stuttering boy. His persistent and graceful struggle to speak is reiterated metaphorically in the looped footage of the teenage girl elegantly skipping across the screen. All of the children project an earnestness which I accentuated with subtle manipulation - reversing the footage, slowing it down or speeding it up. Skip is also a play on words made most obvious by the sounds of skipping records. Much of the audio, abstracted from old recordings, was added to stress the edits and to emphasize the rhythms and patterns of the movement within the frame.
