Deux cents figurants attendent dans un espace rectangulaire délimité, entourés d'une équipe de tournage, qui est en train de filmer une scène de foule dans la nuit. La foule réagit aux instructions incompréhensibles par des dispositions sans cesse différentes. Tout comme l'équipe, qui, dans l'agitation, la fatigue et le stress, essaie de toutes ses forces de maîtriser la situation, épuisant les ressources formelles du cinéma… Un film sur les films.

Zwei hundert Statisten warten auf einem markierten Rechteck; darum ein Filmteam, das hier in der Dunkelheit eine Massenszene inszeniert. Die Menge reagiert auf ihre missverständlichen Aufforderungen mit immer neuen Formationen und ebenso reagiert das Team, das beschäftigt, müde und ängstlich mit aller Macht die Mittel des Kinos ausspielt... Ein Film über das Kino.

Two thousand extras are waiting in a marked off rectangle, surrounded by a film crew, filming a crowd scene in the dark. The crowd reacts to the incomprehensible instructions with ever changing formations; as does the crew, who, busy, tired and worried, are trying with all their strength to master the situation, exhausting the formal means of cinema... A film about movies.

Clemens von Wedemeyer a suivi des études d'arts plastiques à l'académie des arts visuels de Leipzig (Allemagne). Son film "Occupation" a reçu le prix Bild-Kunst pour le Film Expérimental de Munich 2002. Il vit à Leipzig et à Berlin, et travaille sur le cinéma et ses médias dérivés.

Clemens von Wedemeyer studierte Bildende Kunst in Leipzig/ Deutschland. Für "Occupation" wurde er mit dem VG Bildkunst Experimentalfilm Förderpreis ausgezeichnet. Er lebt in Leipzig und Berlin und arbeitet am Kino.

Clemens von Wedemeyer studied fine arts at the academy of visual arts in Leipzig/Germany. He won the Bild-Kunst Award for Experimental Film 2002 in Munich. Living in Leipzig and Berlin, he works between cinema and its friends in other media.

The project was some kind of a burglary, a break-in or robbery, effraction, penetration, passing into, or a collapse, a breakdown, a crash into and an onset of cinema.

Ce film est une exploration du film classique et de ses conséquences sur le cinéma. Tourné en 35 mm avec sept acteurs et deux cents figurants, le son surround joue un rôle prépondérant en synchronisant trois niveaux: l'imagination, la production et la présentation. Finalement, le mouvement des deux cents figurants qui font face à une production immobilisée rassemble les éléments expérimentaux, narratifs, visuels et sonores, tous très importants pour ce film. Le montage son et image est ce qu'il y a de plus significatif verbalement dans le film.

Dieser film ist auch eine Untersuchung des klassischen Mediums Film und seiner Auswirkungen im Kinosaal. In 35mm und mit 200 Statisten gedreht, spielt der Ton eine besondere Rolle, indem er wie der Film die verschiedenen Ebenen von Vorstellung, Produktion und Aufführung eines Films durchläuft. Die Bewegung von 200 Statisten gegenüber einer statischen Filmproduktion bringt nicht zuletzt den experimentellen, narrativen Gestus sowie seine Bild und Tonelemente zusammen, die alle wichtig sind in diesem Film. Die Montage zwischen Bild und Ton und über ihre Grenzen hinweg zum Kinosaal ist sein wichtigstes Ausdrucksmittel wie auch der Gegenstand der Untersuchung.

This film is an exploration of the classic media of film and its outcome in cinema. Shot in 35mm with 7 actors and 200 extras, the surround sound plays a major role in synchronising these three levels: imagination, production and presentation. At last the movement of 200 extras facing an immobilized filmproduction brings together the experimental, narrative, visual and sound elements, which are all important in this movie. The montage in sound and picture over its borders is the most signifying verbalism of this film.
