La petite ville de Lost Hills en Californie est composée à 99% par des agriculteurs mexicains hispanophones. Leurs enfants ne maîtrisent pas bien l'anglais et les parents ne sont pas instruits. Comment les atteindre par le langage, alors qu'ils sont si pauvres et que leur compétence linguistique est limitée? Nous voyons dans ce film un instituteur leur apprenant l' 'ABC Song', tandis que les lettres (la typographie) volent devant nous, et eux, à l'écran. Leur fort accent hispanique est présent, mais les enfants apprécient visiblement cette chanson. This motion graphic video presents us with a dark dilemma. The small town of Lost Hills, California is 99% hispanic (Mexican) farmworkers. Their children have limited english skills and the parents are not well educated. How to reach them with language when they are so poor and have such limited language skills. In this piece, we hear the teacher bravely teaching these children the "ABC song", while the letter (the typography) fly's past us (and them) on the screen. Their heavy Spanish accents are discernible, yet the children are clearly enjoying this song. Biographie David Koeth est designer graphique, peintre et vidéaste. Il est diplômé en graphisme de l'université d'Akron en 1981, formation qu'il complète en obtenant un MFA à la California State University, Fullerton, en mai 2001. I am a graphic designer, painter, and video artist. I earned a BFA in graphic design from the Universiy of Akron in 1981, and will complete an MFA in graphic design from California State University, Fullerton in May, 2001.
