"Friends" commence avec Martin conduisant un camion. Il se gare et s'éloigne. Dans la rue, il rencontre Alex, ils vont prendre un café. Ensuite, chez Alex, ils commencent à faire l' amour mais Martin interrompt tout brutalement. Le jour suivant, Martin et son ami Paul discutent dans un bar. Ils tombent par hasard sur Alex et l'invitent à une soirée. Martin va rester habiter chez Paul et sa petite amie Beth. Un peu plus tard, Paul et Beth sont allongés sur le lit et se regardent avec ennui. Le matin Beth annonce qu' elle s'en va. Plus tard Paul et Alex sont assis dans la cuisine de Paul et discutent. Ils finissent par faire l'amour sous la douche. Par la suite, Beth revient et les surprend. Martin arrive et s'assoit avec Alex. Alex retourne dans la chambre où Paul est en train de s' habiller. Alex et Paul rejoignent Martin et Beth dans la cuisine. Ils ont une conversation ironique et l'histoire se termine. "Friends" beginnt mit Martin, der einen Lastkraftwagen fährt. Später sitzen Paul und Alex in der Küche von Paul und reden miteinander. Am Ende lieben sie sich unter der Dusche. Danach kommt Beth zurück und überrascht sie. Martin kommt an und sitzt mit Alex. Alex geht in das Schlafzimmer zurück, wo Paul sich anzieht. Alex und Paul gehen zu Martin und Beth in die Küche wieder. Sie haben ein ironisches Gespräch und die Geschichte endet. In « Friends » handelt es sich um die verdorbenen Beziehungen zwischen vier Personen. Es wurde in Hi 8 und besonders mit dem natürlichen Licht gefilmt, weil ich mag, wie das Bild so hervorhebt. Wir haben mit einer Geschichte, die ich geschrieben habe, angefangen, und sie hat sich ganz geändert. Alle Dialoge sind improvisiert. Ich wollte den Eindruck geben, wirklich mit den Personen zu sein. « Friends » wurde so aufgenommen, dass man das Ergebnis nicht wissen konnte. Ich habe mit der Idee, eine Fiktion zu benutzen, gespielt, um etwas wirkliches zu bekommen. ''Friends'' is about the messed up relationships of four people. It was shot on hi 8 mostly with available light because I like the way it looks. We worked from a story of mine which changed almost completely. All of the dialogue was improvised. I wanted the movie to have the feeling of hanging out with the characters.'' Friends'' was set up so I couldn't know what I would get. I was playing around with the idea of using fiction to get something true. The style of the video, the improvisation, the long takes, the hand held camera and the available light are all part of this idea. ''Friends'' begins with Martin driving a truck. He parks and walks away. He sees Alex in the street and they go for a coffee. Later at Alex's apartment they begin to make love. Martin ends this abruptly and coldly. The next day Martin and his friend, Paul, talk in a bar. They run into Alex and Martin invites her to a party. Martin goes to stay with Paul and his girlfriend Beth. A little later Paul and Beth lie in bed together looking bored. The next morning Beth announces that she's leaving. Later Paul and Alex sit and talk in Paul's kitchen. They end up making love in the shower. Beth returns and catches them afterwards. Martin arrives and sits with Alex. Alex goes in the bedroom where Paul is and gets dressed. Alex and Paul join Martin and Beth in the kitchen. There's some ironic conversation and the story ends. Biographie Tom Jarmusch est un artiste et cinéaste qui vit et travaille à New York City.
