Michelle DEIGNAN Modern Art vidéo - dv - couleur - 0:07:12 - Irlande / Royaume Uni - 2000 Modern emmène le spectateur dans un voyage au Tate Modern à Londres pendant la première semaine de son ouverture au public. Filmée au moyen d'une caméra sur une tête motorisée panoramique, cette vidéo de sept minutes se déplace du rez-de-chaussée de l'immeuble au 5ème étage, et revient par les escalators. L'image vidéo est basculée, l'image verticale du bâtiment a donc un aspect plus grand à l'écran que l'horizontal (3:4). Comme la caméra était régulièrement tournée par le moteur, il y a un effet visuel d'un constante et lente chute à la renverse dans l'espace, perturbant la conscience spatiale de celui qui regarde. Les visiteurs du musée sont des soutiens visuels et sonores, qui ponctuent la combinaison de mouvement au travers de cet espace architectural réapproprié. Modern, takes the viewer on a journey through the Tate Modern Museum in London during the first week of it's opening to the public. Filmed with a motorised panoramic camera head, this seven minute video moves from the ground floor of the building to the fifth floor and back again via the escalators. The video image is flipped so that the vertical image of the building has a larger aspect on the screen than the horizontal (3:4). As the camera was consistently being turned by a motor, it has the visual effect of a constant slow fall backwards through the place, disrupting the viewers spatial awareness. The museum's visitors are visual and aural props that punctuate the combination of movement through this reappropriated architectural space. Biographie Michelle Deignan est une artiste irlandaise vivant à Londres. Elle travaille comme monteuse-vidéo freelance pour une chaîne de télévision. Elle a exposé ses œuvres dans l'Europe entière, notamment au musée d'art moderne irlandais, à la galerie de Belfast, à Five Years à Londres, au festival du film d'Edimbourg en 1998, à Thessalonique en Grèce (Video99) et au festival international de la vidéo de Malaga en Espagne. Michelle Deignan is an Irish artist based in London where she works as a freelance video editor for broadcast television. She has exhibited her art work throughout Europe, including: The Irish Museum of Modern Art; / The Gallery, Belfast; / Five Years, London; Edinburgh Film Festival'98 / Thesaloniki Video99, Greece, and at the International Video Festival / Malaga, Spain 1998.
