By assembling documentary and fictitious images, Fernando DEL CUBO offers a vision of Movida closer to reality than the acceptable image that has now become official. Using a pinhole camera, Jérôme SCHLOMOFF films a Blonde Redhead concert played in tribute to Serge Gainsbourg. Jem COHEN offers a portrait of Patti Smith on a walk through the city, in the neighborhood she lives in. Maite ABELLA films a woman running in a deserted city, and recreates scenes taken from Flemish paintings from the 16th century. Mohamed BOUROUISSA films a correspondence between two individuals, one is imprisoned and the other is free. The film which questions notions of freedom and imprisonment is constructed around an SMS conversation, images and words. Axel PETERSÉN portrays a descendent of the crusades of the 23th century in Bethlehem, a man who admires Louis II of Bavière and Richard Clayderman. Simon MULLAN films a dancer in an unexpected environment. Florencia P. MARANO observes an ambiguous body in front of a mirror, and questions reversibility and identity of feminine and masculine genders. Florencia P. MARANO directs, in the style of the Scopitones of the 1960’s, a music video with Genesis P-Orridge in a boxing ring.

Yu Chin TSENG began with an experience of solitude, imprisonment and withdrawal. Children hidden under their beds would observe the scene and search for comfort. Bobur ISMAILOV films a woman progressively removing pieces of fabric and veils from her body, to show her face to the world and discover all that is around her. Almagul Menlibaeva MENLIBAYEVA films a nomadic family in Kazakhstan during a shaman ritual meant to help nomads take root. Emmanuelle ANTILLE shows the special relationship between a woman and her domestic space. With a ball of strings, she threads her apartment, making visible a strange internal geometry. The apartment becomes a mental space that mirrors the psyche. Ana OPALIC sets a mother and her daughter face to face. Bea DE VISSER adapts a monologue from Dario Fo’s La Mamma Fricchettona. In a disused warehouse, a woman tells how she went from being a devoted mother to a state of independence. Lena Maria THUERING, exploring the relationship between documentary and fiction, films the empty walls of a house where a voice recounts 50 years of the life of a family. Ken JACOBS edits images of his family in Roma in the 1980s, a perfect day when, as they say, “nothing happens.” Flo is a film star, Nisi a thoughtful child and Aza runs behind her stroller.

Ariane MICHEL films a man working in a dark glacial cave, by the light of a single lamp. He is patiently defrosting a gigantic block of earth to find the corpse of a mammoth, intact, emerge from the inside. Peter ROSE explores space with the help of beams of light, creating primitive and mysterious images. Alexandra REYNOLDS recounts a man’s experience of an eye operation, which was used in a research project about visual tracks and meaning. Sabine SCHÖBEL films the Palace of the Republic, emblematic building of the ex-GDR in Berlin. Restored only to be destroyed, its metal skeleton, before being demolished, evokes other ruins, those of Berlin after the bombings and of the World Trade Center. Franziska CORDES et Markus BERTUCH film the abduction and transportation of an equestrian statue, starting at its vertical posture and ending with its horizontal set down. North of the Navarra region, in the forest of Irati, Carlos IRIJALBA, moves about amongst the nature around him, a tower’s light as his stadium, creating a hyper-defined space by and for performance. The tower sheds light, literally and figuratively, on its function as a pre-narrative device. Ben RIVERS films a man isolated in nature seemingly escaping the cycle of time. Eléonore DE MONTESQUIOU films the frozen white vastness of a river in Estonia as a scene in waiting or between-period of an individual or collective history. Sasha fishes in winter. He speaks Russian, but not a word of Estonian. He desires to live neither in Russia nor in Estonia, but in this in-between space which is the Narva-Ivangorod.

From found footage, Julius ZIZ recalls and dreams about a multidimensional world. The phone rings, awakening him from dream and memory. Quimu CASALPRIM directs a stereotypical couple until their symbolic and narrative break-up. Patrick JOLLEY films a man lying on a bed in a hotel room, snakes surrounding him and slowly slipping in and out of his clothes. Jean-Pierre KHAZEM and Misi PARK follow an incredible character who creates his own imaginary world. Theodore TAGHOLM offers the portrait of a man who directly communicates with poet Walt Whitman, deceased in 1882. Using a sequence shot, Gaetano LIBERTI films an abandoned school and underlines the impossibility of truth. ZAPRUDER materializes the dream of a boy who was traumatized by what he has seen. It is a fall into an interior world, a place without any object of consolation, the search for a new dragon to defeat.
