Works about revolt, violence and resistance against war. Benjamin
Ducroz draws strange figures in the forest. Gil and Moti Nader film
a violist who plays a hybrid reconstructed composition of two national
anthems. Teboho Edkins mixes images created on Second Life with
images filmed at Kinshasa, where a presidential candidate is being
jailed for having talked openly about the lack of democracy. Elise
Florenty compares two pictures, showing signs of what gets destructed
and what remains, in reference to past and present history of Argentina.
Julieta Hanono presents a very short story, about a pullover that
protects feet from the prison cold. Mario Opazo sets a performance
in the Saharan desert; he explains how his mother saved his life
during the Pinochet coup détat. Anna Odgen-Smith finds
video recordings filmed by her mother from 1989 to 1995 in Lebanon.
In 1989, she was 5 years-old. Andres Felipe Uribe Cardenas reinterprets
a work by Goya on war disasters. A Columbian senator describes a
barbarian act. Lamia Joreige tells her personal experience of war,
starting from notes written or filmed during the summer 2006 in
Lebanon. Hisham Bizris film is a meditation on the insanity
of war and violence in Lebanon. Marjoleine Boonstra directs Sa
Null in a Bosnian and Croatian refugee camp, during the war
in Ex-Yugoslavia, portraits of men and women who have lost everything.
Through a simple mirroring device and the indirect look of the camera,
a word can be heard again. In Keep on stepping, the
director is in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and films those
who have lost their private property, in a devastated town.

About analytical or poetic language and what it can bring or subtract
to images. Lawrence Weiner uses gestures related to the act of reading,
abstract assembling of graphic forms and images of dices. Corinna
Schnitt presents an idyllic Alpine landscape, where a dozen nude
women are lying in high grass. The women seem to have become part
of nature, as if from another world. Excerpts from Habernas
appear on screen and we are facing a lack of communication. Francis
Naranjo directs the encounter of visual, sound and textual information,
a net in which the look, the hearing and the subconscious reflect
on each other. Augustin Parra presents a self-portrait in and by
gestures, the impossible attempt to auto-catch a hand. Laetitia
Benat uses the text written by a psychiatrist nurse and has her
play her role. Architecture constrain bodies and the stare keeps
under surveillance Niklas Goldbach films 60 people lying in the
unrenovated basement floor at Palais de Tokyo, a disco bal lis slowly
rotating above them. Christian Merlhiot films a Japanese teacher,
who tells an inexplicable event that happened to her class during
an outing in the mountains. The story is taken from a report mentioned
by Haruki Murakami in its novel Kafka on the shore.

A special relation to time, a move through still scenes, whose structure
is based on photo devices codes. Emmanuel Almborg films the preparation
of a TV news show, before going on air, and questions its underlying
narrative structure. Thomas Leon presents a film, whose form and
structure as well as its use of sound and digital media, give an
emotional atmosphere to a snowy imperturbable landscape. Johanna
Domke films men and women, waiting in public places. Time and space
are suspended, so as to put forward the mental landscape of those
waiting. Manon De Boer invits the pianist Jean-Luc Fafchamps to
play John Cages composition 433 twice in front
of a live audience Miranda Pennell walks across the spaces of a
music school, where young aspiring musicians play together, and
she studies individual practice inside a group. Alicia Framis walks
across the building of a big bank, whose hundred employees are standing
still, in a timeless space, congealed in their everyday work gestures.
Crispin Gurholt gels his characters in order to better investigate
a crime committed in the museum. Liisa Lounila gels the audience
during a concert and observes how people look at each other.

The film Les habitants unfolds around the idea of humanism
and of a link between nature and wildlife, it also addresses the
attacks and the treats perpetrated by mankind. The film Les
saisons evokes the defining moments in Armenian history, from
its volcanic roots to the industrial era. In Fin, Pelechian
films, with a shoulder mounted camera, men and women from different
ages and ethnic groups, in a train going from Moscow to Yerevan.
The film Vie shows the face of a woman who is giving
birth, the ancestral gestures related to birth, in an abstract space
which reminds of the iconographic depictions of the Mother and Child.

Film footage and cinematographic quotes are reinterpreted and reorganized;
allowing for a reflection around cinema and a space for plastic
artists whose iconoclast work is often in-between. Before the story
unfolds, the arranging and assembling of scenes have an ambivalent
and underlying meaning. Dave Griffiths intertwines Irishmen, the
Nasa and football champions, with superior intelligence coming from
outer space. Volker Schreiner uses the loud speaker, as to reveal
the disturbing part of communication and speeches. Eli Cortiñas
Hidalgo uses the figure of Gena Rowlands, chased by the persecuting
ringing of a phone, a voice is heard talking to her as someone who
seems to be a mother, a dialogue with oneself. Christoph Girardet
shows how memory would look like was it made of cinematographic
fragments. Paulette Phillips focuses on the sign language and on
signs translated through cinema when a female character about to
commit a crime. Noe Sendas builds an internal monologue, which underlines
the distance between a feeling and what triggered it. Les Leveque
rearranges the film Giant, the epic story of Texas, oil and racism.
