Manon de Boer creates a triple portrait, that of a city, a woman
and an attitude towards life. The personal life of Rolnik, a Brazilian
psychoanalyst living in Sao Paulo, involves the Brazilian dictatorship
of the 60s as well as the Parisian intellectual climate surrounding
Deleuze and Guattari in the 70s. The film intermingles various
themes, the other and the relation towards otherness, the connexion
between body and power, the voice and, finally, the micropolitics
of desire and resistance. Txuspo Poyo, referring to Marcel Duchamps
works, articulates an arrangement of single machines,
sloughed by technological, mechanical, and erotic contributions.
Yves Netzhammer transposes in a specific visual idiom, the preoccupation
to make the self receptive to the other. The world does
not appear to be a negotiable and available simple mass but rather
like a complex other which has its own dignity.

Pablo Wendel becomes one of the 6000 terracotta statues of the statues
Army of Lintong in China. Mathias Delfau offers the violent meeting
of two points of view; a camera plunges into a motif similar to
a leafy vine and discovers anthropomorphic volumes resembling an
accumulation of pinned bodies. Jonathan Schwartz offers a falsely
naive animation which assembles words and structures like anagrams.
Stephen Andrews and John Greyson fragment an animation and a text,
on the subject of war and decomposition, of the displacement of
values and of the everyday. Lamia Joreige tells of her experience
with war from a personal viewpoint, using notes written and filmed
during the war in Lebanon in the summer of 2006. On a pavement in
Columbia, Miguel Angel Rojas links traces of blood with a chalk
line. Tania Parovic assembles images which document terrorist attacks
in the media. This placing in series renders explicit the interchangeable
characteristics of these images and of the interpretations which
are made of them. Ziad Antar films daily life and suspended time
in a besieged city. Martha Colburn explores the visual and psychological
parallels between the frontier of the American West and the conflict
in the Middle East. Jennet Thomas inserts an improbable creature
endowed with life in the middle of family portraits. Jean-Gabriel
Périot serialises images of fighter aircraft, from the air
to the ground, right to their bombing site.

LawrLawrence
Weiner offers a conceptual reading of the rhumb line,
a line of constant navigation, which in a certain way justified
systemized pillaging on voyages of discovery. Alfredo Jaar filmed
in Angola different interpretations of a song written in the 1950s
by one of the founders of the countrys liberation movement.
Ken Jacobs refilms, reframes, redits, images from the beginning
of the C20th, from the time of the origins of cinema, and reproduces
the stereoscopic set-up of vision. «Hanky Panky January 1902»
offers a vision of human sexuality. «Nymph» offers the
belle of the ball surrounded by her suitors. «Capitalism:
Slavery» reanimates a stereographic image of cotton pickers;
silent, exploited. Wendy Morris connects the First World War and
colonialism in the Congo. Teresa Maria Diaz Nerio offers a performance
where she puts on, like her own skin, the body of Sara Bartman,
an African woman taken to England in 1810 to be exhibited there,
hardly considered as a human being because of her origins and her
physical characteristics. Ane Lan examines the psychological aspects
of the post-colonial relation between Europe and Africa. An African
woman prepares a meal for her Western guest who is lying on a bed,
sick. Gavin Younge explores the myth of the phantom ship through
a series of hypnotic scenes of devastation filmed in Arles and in
South Africa, and revisits Les Alyscamps, ancient necropolis of
the town of Arles. Steven Cohen questions the body and its exploitation,
and renders homage to his South-African nurse, aged 84, who has
been since his childhood the household servant in his family.

The collective project La
Ricarda is a film in which the opinions of thirteen artists
are crossed and intertwined creating a fiction without a script,
a labyrinth where singularities are left out to let a composite
and fascinating shape appear. The experiments location, the
Casa Gomis, near Barcelona, becomes the space for a collective experience.
Tzu Nyen Ho revisits Queens Bohemian Rhapsody,
somewhere between a remake and a pastiche, by using images from
castings made during the preparation for the shooting in the Supreme
Court of Singapore. Daniel Barrow describes and parodies his personal
approach to practising art. Irini Karayannopoulous animation
revisits an 80s pop song as iconoclast homage to Joseph Beuys.
Oreet Ashery directs the visit of an absent artists workshop
by a curator, an artistic thriller exploring the border
between the private domain and the dynamics of power in the arts
world. Elvadas Jansas films himself in an ironic intrigue with,
as a starting point, the project for building an art center in Vilnius.
Daniela Schulz films Gerd Conradt, pioneer of fluxus videos, destroying
his tapes as homage to future generations. Carles Congost tells
the story of an imaginary country solely habited by artists claiming
the right to be something else than the kings buffoons. Paul
Tarragó, surrounded by erudite fluffy toys, dresses up as
a kids entertainer to initiate the public to a clear rereading
of the history of art. Martin Sastre takes us to 2876, in a Latin
America which has become a powerful confederation and the United
States have atomized themselves. In this future, Martin Sastre and
Matthew Barney will test their powers in a final clash.
