The works shown have a direct critical connection to the growth of
the information network and new imaging technology: video games, Internet,
GPS, surveillance video. Michael Takeo Magruder examines the archives
produced on a daily basis by the media, and the whole dynamic of the
informational structures which transmit the process. Day by day, this
work deconstructs the BBC information service supplied by Internet,
in a 3D realm in constant evolution traversed by multiple points of
view. Matthew Ostrowski goes all over the web from random points of
departure and accumulates indiscriminately a flow of data to reach
a non-existent place: an experience masquerading as an environment,
like the internet itself. Logo Hallucination uses image
recognition technologies to detect subliminal kinds of logos or emblems,
most of the time involuntarily hidden in visual environment or in
all Internet images. Jacky Sawatzky develops a social metronome by
the way of a motion capture process. Jordan Crandall performs an analysis
of spectatorship and identi.cation that is resonant with the new regime
of mediatized security, an unconscious security. He combines
live-action video, surveillance footage, military tracking software,
and explores the impact of the new security culture on subjectivity
and identity. Gwen MacGregor tracks with a GPS her activities in Toronto
and New York, applying to herself the principle of traceability and
global surveillance. Michael Graham offers an analytical approach
to
the video medium. Rotations and frame divisions is a video
installation that shows a camera filming by following a set of pre-drawn
graphical instructions. This video appears as an axiom about the comprehension
of reality. Ubermorgens installation shows us in the new alienated
universe of online video game player factories. In China, more than
2000 factories hire people (around 500 000) in order to play Warcraft
night and day. The players provide virtual gold: hardware
or full characters then sold to European or American players via EBay.
These players are called Chinese gold farmers. JoDi modifiese
the extremely violent video game Max Payne, compiling a series of
cheats (game alterations) and intervening in the structure
of the programme to create absurd perspectives and effects which impact
on the realism of the game. Joan Leandre develops a software project
the aim of which is to transform original programmes in auto-generated
simulation environments. The parameters of four fiight simulator programmes
are altered so they are almost no longer manipulable by human pilots.
Roberto Aguirrezabala develops with Easyfriend a hybrid
project between cinema and net art, exploring the different forms
of narration, auto-projection and inter-subjectivity on Internet.
